BRIAN ENO AND BEATIE WOLFE BEAM NEW ALBUM INTO SPACE

The duo sent their third collaborative record, Liminal, outside Earth's atmosphere with help from the Holmdel Horn Antenna.

Brian Eno and Beatie Wolfe have broadcast their third collaborative album, Liminal, into space.

The duo completed the feat on October 15 with the help of the Holmdel Horn Antenna, currently overseen by NASA. Built by Bell Laboratories in 1959, the device was instrumental in uncovering cosmic microwave background radiation, an afterglow visible across the observable universe that validated the Big Bang theory.

"This music, to us, feels like an exploration of new territories, imagining future worlds that we want to live in," Eno shared in a statement. "So it felt fitting to broadcast it into the unknown, into dark matter."

Back in 2017, Wolfe became the first person to beam music into space, also using the Holmdel Horn Antenna. She collaborate on the project with Nobel Prize-winning astronomer Robert Wilson, who discovered cosmic microwave background radiation with Arno Allan Penzias in 1964.

In recent years, many more musicians have also beamed their music beyond the Earth's atmosphere. In March, Massive Attack, The Avalanches, Klein, Pussy Riot and more transmitted original compositions to the moon from London, as part of an art installation at Piccadilly Circus. In 2022, Kerri Chandler also sent his track Atmosphere into space during Sónar Festival.
