ENO/HYDE: SOMEDAY WORLD

Two electro innovators forge the perfect match.

A mind-meld of Brian Eno and Underworld's Karl Hyde could have gone anywhere but it's especially rewarding to hear two such inquisitive souls converge on maximalist art-pop. Someday World is a joyous blend of busy rhythms and bright, surging melodies with fleeting hints of Hot Chip and Talking Heads and a sterling supporting cast, including Coldplay's Will Champion on the dawn-chasing Witness and Roxy Music's Andy Mackay on the typically dissonant When I Built This World. Hyde, who was invited to work on Eno's unfinished ideas, is to the fore with his Essex tones (he goes "the full Bragg" on Who Rings The Bell) and supple guitar playing, but the two men have so much in common that they seem to think as one. This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
