ARISE, SIR JARVIS
The British rock community has rallied around Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker, who may still face charges for disrupting Michael Jackson's performance at the Brit Awards. The rock weekly Melody Maker jokingly nominated Cocker for a knighthood as part of a lavish four-page spread on the brouhaha. And a faux-medieval account of the affair written by Brian Eno led to a chorus of musicians praising Cocker for mocking Jackson's grandiose performance of Earth Song.
Some confusion still exists about what actually happened that night, and "official" video footage of Cocker and a friend leaping on stage was edited from the telecast. In an amateur video shot from the audience, though, it appears that the pair never touched the several children in Jackson's dance entourage who claimed to be injured.
