BRIAN ENO: DRUMS BETWEEN THE BELLS
On the heels of his very good Warp Records debut, Small Craft On A Milk Sea, Brian Eno is back with a new album, this one a collaboration with poet Rick Holland. Drums Between The Bells presents the electronic-music legend in much the same light as Small Craft On A Milk Sea, in that it contains similarly effective live drumming and very beautiful, warm keyboards that alternately stealth show and merely set the stage, but it's the type of record you can't really see yourself listening to too much. Each track features a poem read by a different person, and while it's interesting to hear how Eno interact not only with the words, but with the person reading them, it's also perfectly reasonable to just wish they weren't there at all.
