UNDERWORLD VS MISTERONS: ATHENS
Has much to recommend it.
Underworld here bring us on a sightseeing tour of their art-school origins and influences.
It's a rich smorgasbord of styles with the key unifying factor being the quality of the cuts selected. We're carried downstream by the gentle ripple of Alice Coltrane's Journey In Satchindanada, flowing onward past the likes of Soft Machine's Penny Hitch and Moodyman's Rectify before tumbling into the frantic, spoken word sound collage of Karl Hyde and Brian Eno's Beebop Hurry.
An intriguing dip into the musical wellspring that has nourished the careers of one of Britain's most revered dance acts, the all adventure Athens has much to recommend it.
