BRIAN ENO: DRUMS BETWEEN THE BELLS

Most folks know Eno as a hugely successful producer (U2, Coldplay), but he's long maintained a parallel career as an avant-garde musician. On Drums Between The Bells, English poet Rick Holland supplies texts read to music that ranges from calm soundscapes to frenzied jazz skronk, Kraut rock and techno-inspired tracks, with most all instruments played by Eno. A variety of readers - both genders, various nationalities - tackle the words, some provocative, others comforting. The first track, Bless This Space, is both. (In a nod to John Cage's 4'33", Silence is fifty-seven seconds of exactly that.)
